Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology
Transfer Programs
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)
and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, as
implemented by NASA, provide opportunities for small, high-tech
companies and research institutions to participate in government-sponsored
research efforts in key technology areas. NASA encourages small
business concerns to take advantage of these significant sources
of seed funding for the development of innovations. Legislated
as federal R&D set-asides, the SBIR and STTR programs foster
research that contributes to NASA missions and/or offers potential
commercial applications.
